7 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Chimps

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
On arrival you will be received by our guide with whom you will drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Dine and sleep at Gisakura Guest House

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking
Begin the day early and set out chimpanzees trekking, this excursion will from 2 hours to a whole day basing on where the chimps are. However it is no guarantee that you will see the chimpanzees since they are very unpredictable and move very long distance. Nyungwe houses several primate species like the L’Hoest’s monkey, Owl faced monkey, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Rwenzori colobus and Silver monkey. Dine and sleep at Gisakura Guest House

Day 3: Drive to Kinigi
Today you will have a long drive up to the foothill of the volcanoes that constitute the Volcanoes National Park located in northern Rwanda. Dine and slumber at Kinigi Guest House or Gorilla Nest Lodge or La Palme Hotel

Day 4 & 5: Gorilla Trekking
Enjoy gorilla trekking for two days. After breakfast early in the morning, head to the head-offices of Kinigi Park to be briefed about the trekking. Trekking in the swamp, forest and hills can be very challenging and the walking can go for close to 8 hours. But coming face to face with these primates is so rewarding. You will spend about an hour with them marveling at the way they take care of their young ones, feed, and play. Dine and slumber at Kinigi Guest House or Gorilla Nest Lodge or La Palme Hotel

Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking
Today you will enjoy tracking the smaller primates in the Virungas – the Golden Monkeys (Cercopithecus kandti) which today are listed as endangered by the IUCN because of their very minimal numbers. In groups of at most 6 people, you will set out to track them. Dine and slumber at Kinigi Guest House or Gorilla Nest Lodge or La Palme Hotel

Day 7: Departure
Return to Kigali International Airport to catch your departure flight home.
